I'm reading Drama High which is a ghetto book with a whole bunch of black characters that are always running into some sort of drama. My emotions for the book are mixed up because I kind of find the language they use is a little of a stereo type. Because the characters at one point say, "Well I'm sorry if I'm too smart to be black..." giving a specific standard of knowledge a black person should meet.
In the book the drama already starts as the first day of school starts as Jecee already wants to start a fight with Jayd for "wanting" her man, which is not true but in fact a rumor. And just a couple of days Jayd, broke up with her boyfriend KJ for cheating on her with her "best friend".
Of course Jayd was not going to get trampled by the crowd so she stood up for herself.
At home though her Mama is a witch or something, where she creates potions that actually work. REALLY???? I find that kind of dumb to write in because it just makes the book way more fake than realistic.
I do think that the setting of the book has a lot of meaning, because these people are at a "white" school but there are a whole bunch of African Americans that have been placed there to stop the ghetto black community, but in a way they are still there trying to fight it. I think it is more Ironic more than 1 family had this idea so that a whole crowd of ghetto students ended up in school. I also think that setting has to do with background. If you look closely at the text there are a lot of broken families, whether or not you were born from a broken relationship or from one that broke due to you, or one that broke after you were born. This kind of unites us readers because there are mostly people that come from failed relationships that struggle, but I also think it gives us a clue of what the author's purpose of writing the book was.

Finished Faking 19
Knowing that life is a rush the book faking 19 tells us that even though our economic differences or apparent differences we are the same. In the book Faking 19 two girls from different backgrounds are friends and even though M is rich with an untouchable reputation in school, and personal charm she is the same as her best friend, a poor but good looking girl, lacking the side of her father and a mother that doesn't seem to care enough of the life of her failing daughter.
I feel that the author let me down in that the story was bland and although the ending wasn't like a Disney ending it did give us a glimpse of hope, which was inappropriate for the plot or problem of the book. At the end M makes up with her friend after blaming her for marijuana M was hiding, even though she did not do it.Another issue is that M's father was cheating on his wife with another woman and she is completely blackmailing him with making him pay over used credit cards, and after telling her mom about it they still remain an intact family, because the mother did not want to give up her live as a rich girl. I understand that for many woman in all sorts of social classes go through this but the fact is that the author just wanted to support her statement in which M and the poor girl are actually quite the same. Another thing that happened was that the poor girl won $10,000 after creating a story that and a scholarship to college after she was failing every class because of not caring, it just not happens like that.
I guess that all of the things that ended up happening to the characters could have happened but I was expecting a more dramatic ending that totally left every one in the ruins as a consequence for their actions and decisions they made through the life span of the book.

Faking 19
Faking 19 is about a 17 year old daughter who has struggle just like many people do. In her case she has an absent father, an uncaring mother, and she is on the merge to failing high school and not get graduated if she doesn't get her grades up.
During a conversation between Alex and her mom have a quick conversation about woman and history and now. Her mom states that woman have taken big steps since she herself was a child to now. But Alex looks at it as if woman have taken big steps in society not in a loving relationship.
I agree with Alex and her mom because woman have taken steps to more independence but I feel that woman have not taken a complete step to stop burdensome social rules, for example sex. People at this age have sex whether its to experiment or to have a sexual relationship. But girls that experiment it for multiple times are called sluts, while guys are usually awarded with "stud". Why is this so, shouldn't both or neither be awarded the same?
Some other rules that society has implemented is the whole going out thing, on a date the man has to pay usually while they would be a gentlemen, while if a woman payed the bill they would most likely not get another date any time soon, for being "rude", or there is the whole first move thing, a man has to either ask or gain in on the woman to do something where if a woman does it they are considered desperate or manly.
So making woman vote really bumps them up socially but there are still other social rules that woman are usually targeted for doing, and with a growing community of LGBT's what can we expect and are we actually pushing people to become LGBT.
